CHANGES TO SMC VISA

PUBLISHED: 09-Oct-2023

Previous Skilled Migrant Category (SMC)

The last SMC EOI selection draw under the previous SMC policy was held on 16 August 2023. All EOIs submitted upto 11.59 pm on 15 August 2023 were selected from the EOI pool and those scoring 180 points or more were invited to apply for resident visa. All EOIs below 180 points were withdrawn and EOI fees were refunded by INZ.

New Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) Policy

The current Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) Resident Visa policy is effective from 9th October 2023. New 6 points SMC policy does not have an annual cap (unlimited visas) and Highly Paid Resident Visa is merged into the new SMC Resident Visa rather than a stand alone category. For details of the current policy check out our Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) Resident Visa page.

Other Skilled Resident Visa Options

For decades, Skilled Migrant Category was the main visa category for skilled workers to qualify for resident visa. Now, skilled workers, besides having SMC option, also have the option to qualify for residence visa under the Green List Tier 1 Direct Residence or Green List Tier 2 Work To Residence Visa policy. For details check out our Green List Visa page.
