Parents can split the high financial contribution and apply in 2 stages: moving from a temporary visa to full Permanent Residency.
Allows parents to stay in Australia for up to 2 years while spreading out the costs of the permanent migration application fee.

New Applicants: Approximately 15 years.
(As of 30 April 2026, existing applications are processed up to a queue date of November 2018).
The permanent residency visa. Can be applied for directly, or as a transition step within 2 years of holding the temporary SC 173.

Processed dynamically once transitioning from the temporary stream, tracking parallel to the parent queue framework.
A highly budget-friendly permanent visa option, but heavily restricted by an annual queue cap that results in multi-decade wait times.
Due to government caps, new applications face an estimated wait time of up to 33 years.
