AUSTRALIA PARENT VISA


Are you the parent of a child who is an Australian citizen or Australia Permanent Resident or an Eligible New Zealand Citizen and want to live with your child in Australia? Read on to find out the different subclass of parent visas you may apply for, requirements to qualify for the parent visa, application fees and processing times.

Contributory Parent Visa (SC 143 Visa)

Contributory visa has the shortest processing time but a higher application fee and assurance of support amount. To qualify for the Contributory Parent Visa, parents have to meet the following requirements:

  • be sponsored by their eligible adult child or by an eligible relative if your child is under 18;
  • obtain assurance of support (roughly A$14,000 for 2 parents);
  • meet balance of family test (at least half of your children and step children are eligible children or more eligible children are living in Australia then any other country);
  • meet health and character requirements;
  • must be in the best interest of the dependent child (visa will not be granted if it is not in the best interest of your dependent child).

Visa Application Charge

The visa application charge is payable in 2 installments as under:

  • First Installment is payable at the time of application - Main applicant A$4,895, each additional applicant aged 18 and above A$2,265, each additional applicant under 18 years A$1,650
  • Second Installment is payable when requested by the Department - A$43,600 for each applicant

Estimated Processing Times

  • Existing Applicants in the Queue - As on 31 October 2024, the Department has released applications for final processing with a queue date up to October 2017
  • New Applicants: The estimated processing time for new applications lodged on or after 1 November 2024 is 14 years.

Non Contributory Parent Visa (SC 103 Visa)

This visa has the longest estimated processing time of 31 years. The following are the requirements for this Non-Contributory Parent Visa:

  • not hold or not have applied for Sposored Parent Temporary Visa (SC 870 Visa)
  • be sponsored by your eligible adult child or by an eligible relative if your child is under 18;
  • obtain assurance of support;
  • meet balance of family test;
  • meet health and character requirements;
  • not have any outstanding debts to the Australian government;
  • not have had your visa cancelled or refused;
  • sign Australian Value statement.

Visa Application Charge

Main applicant A$5,125, additional applicant aged 18 years and above A$2,565 and each additional applicant aged under 18 years A$1,285

Estimated Processing Times

Australia Parent visa is capped and there is a long queue of applicants. As at 30 June 2023, parent visa applications queued upto October 2011 have been released for processing. New non-contributory parent visa applications are likely to take upto 31 years for final processing.
