One-off Residence Pathway under 2021 Resident Visa

Were you in New Zealand on 29 September 2021 and have a pending EOI in the pool which has not been selected? Well good news, you could qualify for the newly introduced 2021 Resident Visa. Check out requirements and contact us if you wish to apply for 2021 resident visa.

Due to border closure, EOI selections under Skilled Migrant Category were suspended in March 2020 and continue to be suspended until further notice. The decision to suspend EOI selections will be reviewed in the first half of 2022.

As per official figures, there are Three Thousand Nine Hundred and Ninety (3,990) EOIs in the pool as at 10 September 2020, as against 651 EOI's which were in the pool as on last selection draw held on 18 March 2020. As at 31 March 2021, roughly 7,000 EOIs are expected to be in the pool.

While selections remain suspended since 18 March 2020, EOIs can be submitted in the pool. Though EOI is normally withdrawn from the pool after 6 months if not selected, INZ has clarified that EOIs submitted after 18 March 2020 will continue to remain in the pool and will not be withdrawn, in view of suspension of selections.

A word of caution though. The entire immigration settings including Skilled Migrant Category is currently under review and a major overhaul of the policy is likely. Considering 165,000 temporary visa holders in New Zealand are expected to secure resident visas under the recently announced one-off 2021 Resident Visa, we feel the EOI selection suspension may continue until the new SMC policy is introduced and pending EOIs will be impacted and might not qualify under the new policy.
