NEW ZEALAND PARENT RESIDENT VISA

PARENT RESIDENT VISA REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for the parent visa, parents and sponsors must meet the following requirements:

• Parents must:
  • Not have any dependent children;
  • Be Sponsored by their adult child;
  • Meet English language requirements or pre-purchase English language tuitions;
  • Meet Health and Character requirements or be granted waiver.
• Sponsor must meet the following sponsorship requirements:
  • Should be aged 18 years or over;
  • Must either be a New Zealand Resident for at least 3 years or a New Zealand Citizen;
  • Spent 184 or more days in New Zealand in each of the 3 years;
  • Singly or jointly with their partner or another adult child earn at least 1.5 times the median wage for 2 of the 3 years from the date of issue of Invitation To Apply for residence;
  • Sponsor's income requirement depends upon whether there is a single or joint sponsor, number of parents being sponsored and number of parents sponsored earlier;
  • If sponsoring jointly with partner, the partnership requirements must be met;
  • Commit to meet parents living expenses for 10 years, if parents are unable to meet the same.

Can Grandparents Also Qualify For Resident Visa

Grandparents may qualify for this visa only if their grandchild's parents have died and they meet all of the afore-mentioned requirements for parent visa.

Parent Resident Visa Application Process

Parent Resident Visa is a two-step invitation only process and applicants are drawn by ballots at every invitation round held quarterly:

• Parents initially submit their Expression of Interest (EOI) to apply for parent resident visa;
• All EOIs go in the EOI pool and 500 parents (not EOIs) are drawn from the pool by a ballot every quarter;
• EOI's remain in the pool earlier of selection or 2 years from submission;
• Those selected are Invited To Apply (ITA) for resident visa and can submit their parent resident visa application thereafter.

Parent Resident Visa Annual Quota

Parent visa has an annual quota of 2,500 visas (not EOIs). The quota was shared between the EOI's submitted under the old queue system and EOI's submitted under the new ballot system. Majority selections were made from the old (2016) queue system, to clear the pending applications under the old system. With the recent completion of 6,000+ plus pending EOI's under the old queue system, applicants under the current ballot system now have an increased chance of selection of EOI.

Parent Resident Visa Application Fees

Resident visa application fee including EOI fee is NZD 5,810 payable in two stages. First stage fee of NZD 450 at the time of submission of EOI. Second stage fee of NZD 5,360 is payable at the time of submission of Resident Visa Application, after receiving ITA.
